Why the name?
‘A Leslie Spit Mosaic’ is the name of this recording project, not a band.
The Leslie Spit is a landfill that was made from all the old buildings that made way for the modern city of Toronto.
It should be ugly and useless but it’s not.
A Musical Project!
It’s now a beautiful bird sanctuary, with forested walkways and, at the tip; artists have made a ‘mosaic’ of found sculptures from old bricks, glass and metal.
It’s a wonderful metaphor for what we have done here... making new art out of all the musical ‘debris’ that has been thrown away over the years.
